Non-compliance of Indonesians with social distancing and health protocols during the Covid-19 Pandemic

The existence of the Covid-19 pandemic is indeed very worrying for the world, including Indonesia. The impact caused by covid-19 is considered quite dangerous for health, it can even cause death if the body of an infected person is unable to fight the virus. This condition is also exacerbated by the spread that easily and until now there are still questions about vaccines that can prevent transmission, so the initial effort is to protect oneself by disciplining oneself to apply social distancing and health protocols.

Indonesia has entered its second year since Covid 19 broke out. The government has made various efforts to reduce the rate of cases of the spread of covid-19. As the government has appealed to the public to live healthy by implementing social distancing and health protocols, we can see from the banners in public places that require wearing masks and always maintain cleanliness, then restrictions when entering a place or riding public transportation , implementing work from home (WFH) for workers and study from home (SFH) for education actors and others. But in Indonesia itself, besides there are people who really comply with the social distancing and health protocols, there are also people who do not really obey it, this may be because the covid case that never ends creates boredom and begins to reduce fear of caring for the safety of contracting the covid-19 virus, which is the main reason for other reasons people don’t adhere to social distancing and health protocols. So, the govermnet has tried to stop the spread of the covid-19 virus with various regulations but there are still many of Indonesians who ignore it.

Furthermore, there are several reasons and conditions for many Indonesians who do not comply with health protocol rules. There is a contrast between people who adhere to and do not comply with social distancing and health protocols. One of them, people who adhere to health protocols can be seen from people who have work backgrounds such as office people who can do their work without direct contact with other people, people who work in an agency or office usually there are threats from their superiors regarding health protocol regulations, so They inevitably have to obey it. However, for people such as market traders and other occupations who really need direct contact with the crowd, it is very difficult to implement social distancing and health protocols coupled with no compulsion to comply because there is no relationship between superiors and subordinates.

Another reason for the problem about trust that spreads among the society. Such as believing that Covid-19 is just a conspiracy of people who want to rule the world. Another belief is that religion is very sensitive when discussed, because it is related to God, where some people only believe that the destiny of life and death is in the hands of God so that they do not really apply the rules of health protocol and social distancing and even ignore it.

Then, there are also the socio-culture and customs of the Indonesian people which make it very difficult to comply with the social distancing and health protocols. As examples that are often encountered are selametan, celebrations (hajatan) or feasts (kenduri) for weddings and others, here Indonesian people have a culture of mutual cooperation in helping to carry out events that are held, and these people are very unlikely to do social distancing, and for guests invitations even though attending an event, they are required to comply with health protocols, in fact social distancing is very difficult to implement, and wearing masks is ignored because there are times when guests will be treated to food or take photos together, even though in events such as celebration festivals or congratulations very high of risk to transmission of covid -19 because many people who were invited came from various areas.

So many Indonesians are currently starting to neglect to comply with social distancing and health protocols for the main reason being boredom and starting to reduce fear of the dangers of the covid19 virus, then the main reason underlies another reason for not implementing health and social distancing protocols, namely the reason for a job which requires contact with others directly but does not restrain compliance with health protocols, reasons for growing beliefs in society and socio-cultural and customary reasons in Indonesia.
