Jemur Island

Jemur Island is one of the most attractive tourist destinations. Its natural beauty is stunning and the main attraction for tourists. In addition, the wealth of marine products is also a significant plus.

            Jemur Island is located in Pasir Limau Kapas District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau. On this island, tourists will be spoiled with views of a cluster of islands scattered in several locations. Large rocks that rise high and are on the shoreline also add to the beauty of this island.

            Jemur Island is famous for its beautiful natural panorama, which includes breathtaking views. In addition, the presence of sea turtle species on the island is a special attraction. In certain seasons, the turtles come up to the beach to lay their eggs, with one turtle being able to produce as many as 100 to 150 eggs. The presence of these rare animals is one of the main attractions for visitors.

            Apart from its natural beauty and the presence of sea turtles, Jemur Island also has other tourism potential. Among them are the Japanese Cave, the Beacon Tower, human footprints, bone cavities, remnants of Japanese defenses, Panglima Layar stone, Marine Park, and golden yellow sandy beaches. All of these potentials add to the charm of Jemur Island as an interesting tourist destination to be explored.

            The name Jemur Island is closely related to the term ‘Pak-ku’, which is a Hokkien term meaning turtle from the north. The term ‘Pak-ku’ is still often used by Riau coastal fishermen today. Jemur Island is located about 45 miles from the capital of Rokan Hilir Regency, Bagansiapiapi, and the same distance from neighboring Malaysia. North Sumatra Province is the closest province to Jemur Island.

            Jemur Island is actually a group of islands consisting of several islands, including Tekong Emas Island, Tekong Simbang Island, Labuhan Bilik Island, and several other small islands. The existence of this group of islands adds to the charm and uniqueness of Jemur Island as a tourist destination.
